Team Deadline Approaches

Our team meeting at Papa E'Z pizza went very well, we had a total of 7 skaters with their parents.
It was nice to see new as well as returning skaters and I hear we may be getting a few more to the roster. However, as all are welcomed, there is a entry deadline of October 31st 2008. The team rosters and competition fees have to be submitted to the Michigan High School committee for us to qualify to compete this season. Any questions email roseredman1@yahoo.com.

2008/2009 South Lyon United Figure Skating

South Lyon United High School

Figure Skating Team

2008-2009

Michigan High School Figure Skating:

High School Figure Skaters in Michigan compete in 5 Districts, each composed of 6-12 teams. Each school may field a High level team, and a Low level team, which compete separately. Skaters participate in 4 initial-round competitions within their own District, then the victors from each district meet in a final State Championship Competition in March..

Three of the initial-round competitions in each district are Team Compulsory competitions. At these competitions, there are 3 events at each level - a jumps event, a spins event, and a moves event. One of the initial-round competitions is an Individual competition. At these, selected team members perform skating programs which are judged individually. The Invitational Competition (the "Optional" competition) is open to teams from any District.

Skating Skills Requirements:

The minimum skating knowledge requirement for this team...

backward crossovers, spirals, footwork, one foot spin and ½ jumps.

2008/2009 Season

South Lyon High School United Figure Skating Team
2008/2009

We ended our 2nd year on February 17th competing in Kalamazoo at the Twin Star Arena. Our A and B team place 7th and C team place 3rd! They did such a fantastic job. The girls train all year long skating from once to five times a week either in a learn to skate class or in private lessons. Most of our girls skate at the Novi Ice Arena, Kensington Valley or Compuware Ice Arena. During the season we practice every Saturday Mornings at the Plymouth Cultural Center.

The team is excited for this coming year because it will be the first year we will be able to earn a school letter. If you are interested in joining you will need to get your self a good pair of figure skates and then sign up for group lessons or private lesson at one of the local arenas as mention above.

If you are a beginner or have been skating for years. There is a place for you on this team.
Please come, all South Lyon and South Lyon East students are welcomed!

We may have a unofficial Summer team get together either on or off the ice. Date to be announced.

If you have any questions or would like to join the team please email roseredman1@yahoo.com.
First Team Practice will be Saturday, November 1, 2008.
